Consecutive interpreting

Consecutive interpreting is suitable for training, receptions, negotiations and events for a specialized or professional audience. The interpreter will provide the service in the same room as the participants, orally translating the material one section at a time. An important consideration is that consecutive interpreting will add to the total time of the event. We recommend the use of at least two interpreters at events more than four hours long. So that the interpreter could become conversant with the topics to be dealt with in advance, please send any available presentations and other materials well before the event is to take place. We also ask that you send a copy of the schedule and names of speakers. Speakers should bear in mind that written text is generally unsuitable for oral presentation and that sentences should be shorter and clearer.

Simultaneous interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting is suitable at events with many working languages or many participants. The interpreter provides the translation in a separate room or booth, using a special translation equipment. The audience can listen to the interpretation through headphones simultaneously with the speaker. The nature of simultaneous interpreting requires the use of at least two interpreters.

If the interpretation is needed for only a few people, whispered interpreting may be suitable. In this case, the interpreter sits in immediate proximity to the listener(s) and no special translation equipment is used. We recommend the use of at least two interpreters at events more than four hours long.
